In 1986, the Swiss Henry Buhofer and his wife Elisabeth Buhofer fell in love with the rolling hills and endless skies of Andalusia and had the vision of reviving the region’s vacant old estates, farms and manor houses. Little by little, they acquired the historic buildings and, with great dedication, united them to form a sprawling estate. Today, Rosas-Cantares extends over an impressive 660 hectares – almost three times the size of Monaco – and invites guests to take long walks in a dreamlike setting. Most of the buildings on Rosas-Cantares are over 200 years old and were built from local stone, wood and clay. The traditional cortijos, once simple farmhouses, have been converted into cozy vacation homes that preserve the authentic Andalusian style.
Today, Henry and Elisabeth Buhofer’s children run the estate and continue the long tradition of farming in the region.
